Apple Inc.

Apple Inc., is a large company which deals in both small and large devices ranging from their ipods and iphones to macintosh computers. On both the software and hardware sides of all of their devices there are many clear signifiers that you are dealing with an Apple product. Many of these signifiers are visual such as the smooth edges and designs that scream "high quality product" due to their aluminum and glass bodies or the stylish designs of an operating system.

Part of the reason for these shapes of these products also comes from one of Apples ideologies that products should be simple and just work. Simplistic user environments is the reason why the iphone home screen is always just a swipe away, apps are just one more touch after you get to the home screen and why apple even added a fingerprint scanner to the iphone 5S so that you wouldn't have to spend any extra time typing in a password. Apple simplifies the choices the user has when purchasing a product by only offering a few variations of its products simultaneously. Macintosh computers only come as macbook air, macbook pro, imac and mac mini's. When they release a new version of a product they often stop selling the old ones (on September 19th when the iphone 5S and iphone 5C are launched apple wont sell any iphone 5's).

The success of the Apple brand itself is an argument that people enjoy ease and simple things that just work the way they are supposed to. Moving songs from you Macintosh to your ipod is easy because that is what apple focuses on and the public validates Apple's ideologies and design constructs each and every time it buys an apple product.

  1. Great analysis of Apple Matt. You also did a great job at incorporating the new terms and ideas that we learned in class. It is still so strange to me how successful Apple has become! It seems like everywhere I turn I see somebody with an iPhone or their Mac computer. I was a PC user my entire life, but then one I got to college I decided to purchase a Mac just because of how user friendly it truly is. Apple is definitely here to say and it will be very interesting as a consumer to see how Apple's ideologies and design constructs change over time!
