Eggo Commercial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFkGI57eUHg

This is the commercial that I showed everyone in class. It depicts a black mother trying to make a breakfast that both of her children will eat and each time her older son refuses by way of singing and dancing to MC Hammer's "Can't touch this". When the mom puts out Ego waffles, her son sits down and digs in.
This commercial was interesting because it depicted a black family in a nice suburban house with a mom who is kind and loving and makes her children breakfast in her cute and clean kitchen. While this is obviously not an uncommon occurrence in the real world, it is very uncommon that we see a minority family portrayed as the perfect american family in a commercial or on TV in general. In this commercial  Ego Waffles was saying that there are other types of happy and wonderful families in America and that minority families deserve to be represented on TV.
While this add does a very good job, in my opinion, of being inclusive, it is not as impressive when it comes to gender roles. The mother is the one making breakfast and getting her children ready for school, as the woman usually is portrayed to do. It show a very stereotypical gender role for the mother, but to be honest, it doesn't make me like the commercial any less.
